How do I get rid of open application Malware on my IMac? Cannot move to trash because its opened.....how do I close it?

Maybe if you tell us the name of the malware that is giving you problems we might be able to suggest a way to fix the problem.

Launch Activity Monitor (located in the Utilities folder), locate and select the mega download entry (entries), click on the 'x' top left of the Activity Monitor window to 'quit process'. You should now be able to Trash the item.

thanx for your input....think I did quit Malware (Mega....) but could not send it to trash.
Did you try the Malware application in Paul's post?
Try restarting the computer.
your suggestions did not remove the malware (mega download) from my IMac. Carried out your suggestions and restarted computer but its still there.....HELP!! and thanx!
ok...i did everything you mentioned and did find megabackup....but i could not get it into trash....pulled it down and it jumped back..,thanx but further help would be good!

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
